우리는 많은 시각적 영향 속에 살고 있다. 작금의 시대에선 모두가 이미지를 생산하고 소비하는 개인의 주체적인 삶을 살아가는듯해 보이지만 진짜 현실과 만들어낸 이미지가 본인의 내면과 동일시되느냐에 대해서는 의문이다. 이미지의 소비, 시각적 탐닉, 인스턴트적인 감정처럼 어느 순간 보여지는 것에 단발적으로 나를 소비하는 현황에서 찾아오는 공허함에 대해 우리가 잊지 말아야 할 무언가가 있음을 나는 이 작업을 통해 이야기하고 싶다. 

 

나는 모두가 각자의 마음속에 가치의 탑을 쌓고 있다고 생각한다. 이때의 가치는 값어치가 아닌 소망, 정의, 정직, 책임감과 같은 신념에 가깝다. 이 가치의 탑을 쌓는 과정은 의미 있는 삶을 나아가기 위한 본인의 걸음이며, 잊지 말아야 할 삶의 중요한 요소 중에 하나라고 생각한다. 이 눈에 보이지 않는 가치는 가끔 잊혀질 때도 있지만 결국은 내가 삶을 나아가는데 있어서 중요한 길라잡이가 된다. 

 

 나는 ‘보이지 않는 가치의 탑’ 이라는 작업을 통해서 당신의 삶에 있어서 잊었던 가치들에 대해서 상기시키는 의미 있는 오브제가 되기를 바란다.

Our daily lives are submerged in visual stimulus. On the surface, it might seem that we are consuming images and other visual media, whether it be by scrolling down social media or carefully editing and curating parts of our lives to portray a certain image of ourselves to others. However, it is easy to lose our center while we are at it. Perhaps we are consuming the visuals like the empty calories of fast food: fleeting moments of pleasure, followed by shy regrets. I want to communicate the values overtaken by the sudden wave of sense of void.

 

We all build, deep in our inner world, pagodas of invisible values - not of secular currencies, but of hope, trust, justice, and a sense of ownership. While we often forget the significance of such values in the midst of bustling livelihood, such invisible values serve us as a guiding light in life.
